Anguilla National Trust Night Hike
Nature Week celebrations with a night hike.
Anguilla National Trust Nature Week brought the island’s unique wildlife and conservation efforts into sharp focus, beginning with a guided night hike through The Valley’s agricultural lands.
Participants set out after dark in search of nocturnal wildlife, discovering the “night critters” that often go unseen but play vital roles in the island’s ecosystems. The walk offered a rare chance for residents and visitors alike to experience Anguilla’s natural world from a new perspective.
Together, the events offered something for everyone, blending exploration, science, and community engagement into a week that celebrated both curiosity and conservation. Organizers expressed deep gratitude to all who participated, as well as to the partners whose expertise and collaboration made the week possible: Dr. David Roy and Dr. Helen Roy of the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology, and Dr. Matthew Witt of the University of Exeter – International. Special thanks were also extended to the UK Government’s Biodiversity Challenge Funds (Darwin Plus Initiative) and Flora & Fauna’s Conservation Leadership Programme for their sponsorship and continued support.
Nature Week once again underscored the importance of local and international partnerships in safeguarding Anguilla’s natural heritage—and the enthusiasm of a community eager to learn, explore, and protect the island’s wild spaces.
